Best PUBG Crosshair Settings
PUBG now has a proper crosshair editor. Here is how to set one up that stays visible on grass, snow, sand and inside buildings – plus why simpler is usually better.
PUBG's crosshair editor in brief
Update 42.3 (August 2026) added crosshair customisation to the PC settings menu. You can now set the crosshair separately for four weapon categories – General, Shotgun, Handgun and Throwables – and see a live preview as you change each option.
| Element | What you can change |
|---|---|
| Colour | Main crosshair colour |
| Lines | Style, length, thickness, opacity, rotation and angle |
| Dot | Style, rotation, size and opacity |
| Outline | Colour, thickness and opacity |
A few limits are worth knowing. The Flare Gun and Zipline Gun use the Handgun crosshair with fewer options, and the Throwables crosshair only lets you change colour and opacity. Update 43.1 also tidied up the crosshair and sensitivity menus so related options sit together.
Recommended starting crosshair
These values are a starting point that works on every current map. Adjust them in Training Mode, then play a few matches before changing anything else.
| Setting | Recommended | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Colour | Cyan, bright green or yellow | Stands out against PUBG's green, brown and grey terrain. Avoid red and orange, which blend into blood effects, fire and molotov flames. |
| Line length | Short | Long lines cover the target's body at range. Short lines frame the target without hiding it. |
| Line thickness | Thin | Thick lines block your view of small, distant targets. |
| Line opacity | High (80–100%) | Low opacity disappears against bright sky and snow. |
| Dot | On, small | A centre dot gives you a precise aim point for hip-fire and fast flicks. |
| Outline | On, thin, black | Keeps the crosshair readable on both dark interiors and bright backgrounds. |
| Rotation / angle | Default | A standard plus or T-shape is the easiest to read under pressure. |
Settings for each weapon category
General (rifles, DMRs, SMGs, LMGs)
Use the setup above. This is the crosshair you will see most often, so keep it clean and consistent.
Shotgun
Keep the lines slightly further apart so you can still read where the pellet spread will land, and keep the dot on. Shotgun fights happen at close range, so a slightly larger crosshair is fine.
Handgun
Copy your General crosshair. Pistols are mostly a backup, and switching to a different-looking crosshair mid-fight costs you a moment of recognition.
Throwables
Only colour and opacity can be changed. Pick a colour that differs from your main crosshair so you instantly know a grenade is in your hand. That alone prevents a lot of accidental throws. Our grenade guide covers throwing technique.
Choosing a colour for your monitor
The "best" colour depends on your monitor and any colour settings you use. If you use a colourblind mode or strong digital vibrance, retest your crosshair afterwards – a colour that was bright can end up muted. Check it in three places in Training Mode: looking at grass, looking at a bright sky, and inside a dark building. If it is easy to see in all three, it is the right colour.
Common crosshair mistakes
- Copying a pro's crosshair exactly. Their monitor, resolution and eyesight are different. Use their settings as ideas, not rules.
- Making it too big. Large crosshairs feel comfortable in Training Mode but hide distant players in real matches.
- Changing it every week. Your eyes learn the crosshair. Pick one and stick with it for at least a couple of weeks.
- Ignoring the outline. Without an outline, almost any colour vanishes somewhere – usually against snow or sky.

Frequently asked questions
Can you change the crosshair in PUBG PC?
Yes. Since Update 42.3 in August 2026, PUBG has a crosshair editor in the settings menu. You can change colour, lines, dot and outline separately for General, Shotgun, Handgun and Throwables.
What is the best crosshair colour in PUBG?
Cyan, bright green or yellow with a thin black outline works for most players. Avoid red and orange, which blend into blood, fire and molotov effects.
Does the crosshair change my scope reticle?
No. The crosshair editor only affects the on-screen crosshair. Red dots, holos and magnified scopes keep their own reticles.
Should I use a dot crosshair in PUBG?
A small centre dot helps most players with hip-fire and quick flicks. Keep it small so it does not cover distant targets.
