PUBG Ping and Servers for UK Players

How to get the lowest, most stable ping in PUBG from the UK – and what to do when the game feels laggy even though your connection seems fine.

Updated · Checked against PUBG Update 43.1 · About a 7-minute read

Which server should UK players use?

Choose the Europe (EU) region in the PUBG lobby. It has the shortest route from Great Britain and Northern Ireland and the largest pool of players in UK time zones, so queues are shorter in normal and ranked matches. Selecting other regions (such as NA or Asia) adds a large amount of ping because of the physical distance.

The EU region also has its own map rotation. As of Update 43.1, Erangel is always available in normal matches, with other large and small maps rotating weekly; ranked uses Erangel, Miramar, Taego and Rondo. Learn the map you will play most before anything else.

What ping should you expect?

On a good wired fibre connection, most UK players see a low and steady ping to the EU servers. What matters more than the exact number is stability: a steady connection with no packet loss feels far better than a slightly lower ping that spikes. If your ping regularly jumps by large amounts or you see packet loss, use the fixes below.

Fixes that make the biggest difference

  1. Use a wired Ethernet connection. Wi-Fi adds latency and, more importantly, random spikes. If you cannot run a cable, a powerline adapter is usually more stable than Wi-Fi, though quality varies by house wiring.
  2. Stop background downloads. Steam, Windows Update, cloud backups, game launchers and streaming on other devices all compete for bandwidth. Pause them while you play.
  3. Restart your router if it has been on for weeks, and keep its firmware updated.
  4. Use your router's QoS or gaming priority feature if it has one, and prioritise your PC.
  5. Check for packet loss. Run a continuous ping or a tool such as PingPlotter while playing. Loss on your own network points to Wi-Fi or router issues; loss further along the route is an ISP issue.
  6. Talk to your ISP if the problem persists on a wired connection with nothing else running. Note the times and screenshots of packet loss – it makes the support call much quicker.

Broadband types in the UK

ConnectionFor PUBGNotes
Full fibre (FTTP)BestLowest latency and most consistent. Widely available in many UK towns and cities.
Cable (e.g. Virgin Media)GoodUsually fine; occasional evening congestion in some areas.
Part fibre (FTTC)GoodPing is usually fine; download speed matters little for PUBG itself.
4G / 5G home broadbandVariableCan work, but ping varies with signal and mast congestion. Test at peak times before relying on it.
SatellitePoorGeostationary satellite latency is too high for competitive play. Low-orbit services are better but still more variable than fixed lines.

Download speed is rarely the bottleneck – PUBG uses very little bandwidth in a match. Latency and stability are what matter. Upload speed matters more if you stream at the same time.

Does a VPN or "gaming VPN" help?

Usually not. A VPN adds an extra hop, so on a healthy connection it increases ping. It can occasionally help if your ISP routes traffic badly at certain times, but it is a workaround, not a fix. Try the steps above first.

When it is not your connection

If several friends on different ISPs see lag at the same time, the problem is likely on the server side. Check PUBG's official news and social channels for maintenance or service notices. Very low frame rates can also feel like lag – see our settings guide for stable FPS.

Frequently asked questions

What PUBG server should I use in the UK?

Use the Europe (EU) region. It gives the lowest ping from the UK and the most players in UK time zones.

Why is my PUBG ping high in the UK?

The most common causes are Wi-Fi, background downloads, an overloaded router or ISP congestion. Use Ethernet, pause downloads, restart the router and test for packet loss.

Is Wi-Fi OK for PUBG?

It works, but Wi-Fi adds random latency spikes. For competitive play, a wired Ethernet connection is far more consistent.

Does a VPN lower ping in PUBG?

Usually not. A VPN normally adds latency. It only helps in rare cases where your ISP routes game traffic badly.
